TAMPA, Florida (WFLA) – The first night of Winter Village can be called a success. 8 On Your Side has seen so many smiles and it’s not just the people who come here but the local economy as well.

It’s not even Thanksgiving, and Tampa is giving us an early start to the holiday season.

“I love it. I haven’t fallen yet. I haven’t fallen yet,” said Kat Blazick, who skates with her family.

At the center of all the fun of Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park is the ice rink.

“It’s our first time. It’s pretty exciting because I’ve never actually done it. I’ve only ridden rollerblades and not normal skates, so it’s new, ”said London Simmons, who is skating for her birthday.

Come alone, with friends or with family, fun here is for everyone.

“It’s a special day. It’s a friday Spend time with the family. We’re having a great time, ”said Kat.

The Christmas trees are outside; the perfect place for a photo opportunity. The sellers have the goodies, winter brews and the right holiday mood for the adults. For these small businesses, the winter village is an early gift.

“My shop is online, and that’s just for the holidays, this pop-up. It’s a great opportunity for us to make ourselves known, talk to people and see their reactions, ”said Diana Albrecht, owner of Apartment No. 3, an online shop.

Finish with music and trees decorated with lights in the park.

“It’s so cool. Just the atmosphere. Everyone is smiling or in a good mood, and that’s super contagious. So it’s great,” said Steven Blazick, who took part in ice skating with his family.

So many other events are planned for Christmas in Tampa over the next month. On certain weekends there is a choo choo for young children and their families. There will be the tree lighting ceremony, the Santa Fest, the boat parade, vacation movies in the park and the Winter Village Express.

A tram will take you through downtown Ybor and back with stories told, sing-alongs and cookies! More information can be found here.
