The REAL Love Boat, dating series filmed aboard Princess Cruises ship

US broadcaster CBS and Australian broadcaster Network 10 jointly announced today that they have ordered localized versions of THE REAL LOVE BOAT, a reality dating competition series inspired by The Love Boat, the hit screenplay series from the 1970s, in which Princess Cruises ships served as the backdrop. Production will begin in summer 2022, and both versions are expected to air in the US and Australia later this year.

The intellectual property of The Love Boat is owned by CBS Studios which, together with CBS and Network 10, are trademarks of Paramount Global.

“‘The Love Boat’ is a timeless, romantic concept with universal appeal, and we look forward to reimagining this popular series for audiences in two different countries,” he said George Cheeks, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBSand leading global content strategy for Paramount’s free-to-air networks, including Network 10.

“Following NCIS: SYDNEY, today’s announcement is another example of our global franchise strategy, leveraging our rich intellectual property and vast international footprint to create new content for viewers around the world.”

THE REAL LOVE BOAT brings singles together to cruise the Mediterranean on a luxury cruise ship in search of love. Destination dates, challenges and surprise singles will test the couples’ compatibility and chemistry. As with the beloved original screenplay series, the essential crew members, including ‘Captain’ and ‘Cruise Director’, will play crucial roles in mediating and navigating the romantic (and sometimes turbulent) waters.

After almost a month at sea, only one winning couple will make it to the final port and take home a cash prize and a once-in-a-lifetime voyage courtesy of Princess Cruises, the series’ exclusive cruise partner.

Beverley McGarvey, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Paramount Australia and New Zealand, said: “‘The Love Boat’ was synonymous with exotic locations, glamour, excitement and of course romantic connections, all backed up by wonderful comic book narratives. THE REAL LOVE BOAT will include all of this and more. A dating show that showcases excitement, hilarity, humor and love as it sets sail on romantic adventures.”

“Viewers really connected to the fun and escapism of ‘The Love Boat,'” he said Mitch Graham, senior vice president, alternative programming, CBS.

“The iconic series embodied the many ways people can create new, meaningful connections. Reimagined as a dating show with competition, adventure and romance, THE REAL LOVE BOAT is an ideal fit for our schedule and our viewers.”

“The Love Boat” has been synonymous with the Princess brand for more than 45 years, since introducing the world to the glamor and elegance of the Princess experience,” he said John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises.

“We look forward to millionscome on board our iconic ships as We are waiting for you on THE REAL LOVE BOAT.”
