Silversea Unveils New Luxury Wellness Program, Otium – Cruise Industry News

Silversea Cruises has unveiled a new wellness program to launch aboard the new Silver Dawn ship, which will welcome guests from spring 2022. The program, called Otium, is a “nod to the Italian cruise line heritage” and “inspired by the leisurely nature of the ancient Roman lifestyle,” said Silversea.

In Roman culture, otium was a time devoted to leisure when people bathed, chatted, sang, theorized, drank, ate and relaxed, a press release said. It is also “the opposite of negotium, the non-existence of pleasure”.

According to a press release, Otium promotes “balanced indulgence, indulgence, and the joy of sacrifice and delayed gratification”. It is based on the principles that wellness should be a “natural, enjoyable part of the day,” the cruise line said.

“Silversea has long been known to enable its guests to ‘travel deeper into luxury’,” said Barbara Muckermann, Chief Commercial Officer of Silversea Cruises. “While the immersive aspect of what we offer is easy to convey, the luxury of our product often cannot seem tangible: guests really have to see it – to live it – to fully appreciate it. Otium is unlike any other wellness program; it fits perfectly with our brand positioning and will provide our guests with unparalleled comfort. It will be about instant gratification and will extend the luxurious pampering that Silversea is famous for to various areas of the ship, from the guest suites to the redesigned spa and beyond. Otium will change the way guests relax and enjoy their personal space. It will be an increase in our already high level of comfort. “

According to the press release, Otium will offer guests a “bespoke, multi-dimensional wellness journey” during Silver Dawn, from suites, treatments in the redesigned spa, to other aspects of the cruise experience.

According to the press release, Silversea presented the following experiences as key pillars of Otium:

• The Otium Sleep Experience: The Otium wellness program begins with a night’s sleep that is “tailored to the preferences of each individual,” according to the cruise line. Every guest at the Silversea sleeps in Egyptian cotton bed linen, which is made in Italy. On board the Silver Dawn, guests of each suite category will also find a special, Otium-inspired mattress specially developed for Silversea. The cruise line’s usual pillow menu is expanded to include customizable down and feather blends, memory foam, firm down and improved down alternatives.

• The Otium bathing experience: Otium is also being extended to suite bathrooms. Each suite category at Silver Dawn offers guests both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. Plush Otium bathrobes, bath salts and soothing candlelight are part of the Otium bathing experience. Guests can relax with a playlist of their choice from a curated music menu while enjoying treats such as caviar canapés, chocolate truffles, and champagne, among others.

• The Otium balcony experience: Silversea claims to offer “the first special balcony experience at sea”. On some balconies, guests can adapt their experiences to the climate, regardless of whether cruises in cold or warm water regions. In cool conditions – like the Antarctic, the Arctic or the Russian Far East – Silversea offers warm cashmere blankets, a selection of delicious starters and a hot chocolate menu at sea. In warmer climates – such as the Caribbean or the Mediterranean – guests can stay cool with “refreshing body mists”, sun creams, cocktails and gourmet snacks.

• The Otium Comfort Food Experience: With Otium, Silversea is expanding its food and beverage offering with a 24/7 comfort menu in the suite – designed to enhance the movie nights, pre-dinner aperitifs and other moments for guests. The typical dishes on Otium’s comfort food menu range from lobster and caviar in brioche rolls to a selection of gourmet popcorn and other options.

• The Otium Spa Experience: The Otium Spa experience extends from guest suites to the spa and other public facilities. Silver Dawn’s spa will offer guests a “highly selective treatment menu,” put together by wellness experts, the cruise line said. In addition to massages and other treatments, guests can relax in the thermal baths of the spa with a glass of champagne and snacks – from caviar to truffles.
