Ocean Terminal welcomes luxury ‘residential’ cruise ship

LUXURY cruise ship The World has visited Greenock for the first time in over a decade.

The 644-foot “floating community” of 165 privately owned apartments arrived at Ocean Terminal over the weekend and is scheduled to leave town tonight.

Launched in 2002, the ship is described as the largest private barge in the world and sails around the globe but hasn’t been here since 2010.

Each resident, along with the captain, helps choose the itinerary for the year.

World is currently on a four-week tour of Scotland and Ireland’s Atlantic coasts, with the official itinerary stating the ship will visit “the Hebridean port of Stornoway, as well as the coastal jewels of Oban and Greenock”.

She is going to Amsterdam today and then to Rotterdam.

She features six restaurants, Michelin-star chefs, a movie theater and auditorium, fitness center, clothing boutique, two pools, putting greens and the only full-size tennis court at sea.

In addition to shore activities, her international residents participate in onboard discussions with experts in science, culture and travel, and enjoy yoga classes, spa treatments, diving classes and water sports outside of the ship’s marina platform.
