Norwegian Cruise Line’s 17th and final ship returns to service

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) celebrated the completion of its major cruising comeback with the departure of Norwegian Spirit, the 17th and final ship in its fleet to return to service. NCL’s return after a 500-day hiatus began with Norwegian Jade’s departure on July 25, 2021 from Athens (Piraeus), Greece. Since then, the brand has systematically relaunched its ships around the world, welcoming guests and crew aboard its ships.

“This is an incredibly important day in our history and a defining moment for our future,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Exhibiting an extensive bow-to-stern revitalization worth over US$100 million, Norwegian Spirit will sail the South Pacific calling at eight ports in 12 days, with departures from the island of Tahiti. Itinerary highlights include a trip to Bora Bora, where guests can snorkel and discover why the calm waters are world famous. You can also venture to Raiatea, considered the holiest island in the South Pacific, where visitors can spend the afternoon exploring rainforests and the extinct volcano of Mount Temehani. The itinerary also includes other destinations for guests to experience such as Nāwiliwili, Kaua’i, the Kokee Mountains and Fern Grotto. This cruise departed from Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia on May 7, 2022 and is scheduled to disembark in Honolulu, Oahu on May 19, 2022.

As part of the most extensive renovation in the company’s history, Norwegian Spirit now features 14 new venues, additional and upgraded staterooms, upgraded public areas and new hull art. Enhancements included a double-sized Mandara Spa with a new thermal suite and relaxation areas, an expanded Pulse Fitness Center and the second Onda by Scarpetta restaurant at sea. New complimentary dining venues include an additional main dining room, Taste; the 24-hour restaurant The Local Bar and Grill; the all-day Garden Cafe; the Great Outdoors Bar and the Waves Pool Bar. Making their debuts are the Social Comedy & Night Club and the Spinnaker Lounge with the Humidor Cigar Lounge, as well as the adults-only Spice H2O, a day lounge with two new hot tubs and a dedicated bar that expands transformed into an after-hour entertainment venue.
