‘I’ve made my decision’ – defender linked with £8.6m move from Everton makes transfer admission

AZ Alkmaar defender Owen Wijndal has revealed his future amid evident interest from Everton.

De telegraph have claimed that Everton, along with a host of other clubs, have a “specific interest” in Wijndal and that he could be available for €10m (£8.6m) this summer.

Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli and Sevilla have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old left-back, who graduated from Alkmaar’s academy and was appointed captain of the club aged 21 last summer.

In an interview, Wijndal has admitted that this summer could be the time when he leaves Alkmaar. The full-back’s comments could give Everton a boost following reports of his apparent interest.

“I’ve decided not to say much about it because it’s not very nice to AZ,” FC update quote Dutch international ESPN. “I don’t really think it’s necessary because I’m here and I’m focused on here.

“I have expressed my ambition to AZ to help the club and the club is helping me in that. Which club it will ultimately be, I have no idea.

“I think I’m ready for that, but I’ve also indicated in previous interviews that it has to be a club that I really feel comfortable with, otherwise I’ll just stay with AZ with all the joy and pride. It’s still like that now.”
