An Indian judge on Friday refused to bail the son of Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, who was arrested this week in a drug raid on a luxury cruise ship, as the state narcotics agency raised concerns that he might manipulate evidence and influence witnesses.
Magistrate RM Nerlikar sent Aryan Khan to prison for two weeks pending investigation. Khan, 23, is the eldest son of Shah Rukh Khan.
Aryan Khan and seven others were arrested when narcotics raided a party and drugs confiscated on the cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai on Saturday. You were officially arrested on Sunday.
A total of 18 people have been arrested in the case so far.
Khan’s attorney Satish Maneshinde told the court that the drug agency had not found any drugs on Khan and claims that Khan had been in contact with drug dealers were not true.
The Narcotics Authority said it had evidence in the form of WhatsApp messages that Khan regularly communicated with drug dealers. It was not stated whether drugs were found in Khan’s possession when he was arrested.
Prosecutor Anil Singh said Khan’s release could harm the case. The agency said Khan and the others were “regular consumers of contraband”.
“You are influential people. Evidence can be manipulated. If it had been a person with a small amount, it would be different. We have a lot of material. Protection such as bail at this stage will hamper the investigation, “New Delhi Television Singh quoted as saying.
