Forty-five-year-old William Malone – a boat captain who lived in Mobile, Alabama and worked as the captain of a ship leaving Abbeville – was found guilty of child pornography by a federal jury in Lafayette.
As horrific as the child pornography charges against him are, it is the humiliating allegations that he is accused of doing to the young girl who brought this case to court.
An investigation began in March 2020 when the mother of the girl, who was under 12, told Mobile Police Officers and Child Advocacy Center that Malone had sexually abused her daughter. According to a press release from the US Attorney’s Office, Malone texted the victim to send him pictures and videos of himself naked and other sexually explicit pictures of himself. Agents then say they found these images on Malone’s laptop and cell phone that he was using on the ship he was working on.
In October 2020, Malone was charged on the following charges:
- five cases of child pornography production
- a count of the use of a facility to induce a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity
- a count of child pornography received
- a charge of possession of child pornography.
Malone faces a prison sentence of up to 160 years plus life imprisonment and a fine of up to
